Culturally Responsive Teaching & Learning Strategies and Techniques

Course content and learning materials are crucial components of inclusive teaching. Instructors should develop or revise their courses to value and reflect multiple social identities of students, including but not limited to: race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religion, military status, ability status, socio-economic status, gender identity, age and their intersections. An inclusive course also incorporates strength-based narratives and contributions from individuals from minoritized groups (Mary Armstrong, 2011). This section shares perspectives and frameworks for designing and implementing an inclusive course, including guidelines for developing equity-oriented, culturally relevant syllabi.
