DENVER – Yesterday, the Colorado Department of Higher Education (CDHE) and the Colorado Department of Education (CDE) honored Colorado’s future educators during the eighth annual Future Educator Honor Roll, held as part of Teacher Appreciation Week.
The Future Educator Honor Roll event, held at Red Rocks Community College’s Lakewood campus, recognized outstanding teacher candidates from educator preparation programs across Colorado, including students participating in the state’s Teacher Recruitment Education and Preparation (TREP) program. TREP creates opportunities for qualified students in educator career pathways to concurrently enroll in postsecondary courses and earn college credit at no tuition cost to them or their families, for up to two years after their 12th‑grade year.
“Here in Colorado, we know education is the best investment we can make in our state and our future,” said Governor Jared Polis in a video message to awardees. “I want to thank all of you for dedicating your time and talents to this important work you're about to embark on.”
While educator shortages continue to affect communities nationwide, the state remains committed to elevating and supporting future educators as part of Colorado’s broader efforts to strengthen the educator workforce.
CDHE Executive Director, JB Holston shared remarks with honorees, emphasizing the lasting impact educators have on their students.
“You are stepping into a profession that will challenge you—but it will also change you,” said Holston. “You will have moments of doubt, moments of growth and moments of incredible impact. There will be days when you don’t realize how much you matter—but I promise you, you will.”
The event featured remarks from state education leaders and guest speakers, including CDE Commissioner of Education, Dr. Susana Córdova. Greeley Central High School, 2026 Teacher of the Year, Stephen Paulson provided an inspiring video message for attendees as they transition into their educator careers. This was followed by the presentation of certificates to the participants of the 2026 Future Educator Honor Roll.
Profiles of the honored teacher candidates are available on the CDHE website.
