Data Advisory Group (DAG)

Note: Information on this page is subject to change as the Department implements recently signed legislation. Last updated July 1, 2026.

About the Data Advisory Group

The Data Advisory Group (DAG) was formally created through Changes to Institutions of Higher Education Statutes (SB26-078). Several sections of this bill pertain to the Data Advisory Group.

The bill summary states, "the act codifies the existing data advisory group facilitated by the department. The data advisory group is made up of representatives from the department and the institutions. The data advisory group must meet quarterly and is charged with advising on the development of policies and procedures for the collection, storage, and use of data from institutions. The act requires the Colorado commission on higher education…to consult with the data advisory group to establish certain data policies. The act also adds one member of the data advisory group, selected by the commission, to the advisory committee to the commission."
Most portions of the bill became effective upon its signing (May 27th, 2026).

Current institutional representation as of July 1, 2026 can be viewed here.

Statute provides funding for a part-time staff position, Data Advisory Group (DAG) Program Manager. The position is currently posted and is open for application through July 8, 2026.

DAG Advisor on the Commission

CDHE is following an abbreviated version of our standard process to select a new advisory member from DAG for the Colorado Commission on Higher Education (CCHE). This process, which includes application and review by internal committee, is also used for the student and parent advisors from the same subsection of statute.

CDHE notified current DAG members of the position description and officially opened the application process on Monday, June 15. Applications will be accepted till Friday, June 26. A committee will review the applications, make a decision, notify applicants, and submit a recommendation to CCHE by Tuesday, June 30. View notification message and application document.

CCHE has named Dr. Laura Jensen, Chief Data Officer, Colorado State University System, as the advisor from DAG.

Formalization of DAG

CDHE has temporarily paused monthly DAG meetings while we implement the bill and ensure compliance with Open Meeting Laws, as detailed in C.R.S. 24-6-401 through 24-6-402.

CDHE sent a communication to existing DAG members on 6/12/2026 regarding initial steps for implementation. View the information here.

  • Upcoming Steps:
    • DHE will schedule an initial meeting for DAG to begin a discussion about the development of bylaws to provide organizational structure for the group.
    • DHE will work with institutional leadership to identify their institutional representative for DAG, as outlined in SB26-078.

DAG Meeting Information

Following Colorado open meeting law requirements, DAG meetings will be posted here as they are scheduled, including a public link, agenda, and meeting recording and minutes (where applicable). Minutes for all DAG meetings and subgroup meetings will be available upon request. All meetings will be posted at least 24 hours before they begin.
