Coloradans wear gear from their alma mater and encourage young people to reach higher
DENVER – April 29, 2025: The Colorado Department of Higher Education (CDHE) announces Decision Day on Thursday, May 1. Decision Day honors high school seniors across the state as they make their postsecondary plans—whether enrolling in college or university, joining the military or committing to an apprenticeship, internship or volunteer service.
As part of a statewide push to build a stronger, more educated workforce, CDHE joins schools, families and communities in recognizing the achievements of Colorado’s graduating seniors and encouraging every student to take the next step in their education and career journey.
“Decision Day is about more than just choosing a college – it’s about celebrating the diverse pathways students take to reach their goals,” said Dr. Angie Paccione, CDHE Executive Director. “Colorado needs skilled, educated individuals. Whether students pursue a four-year university, a community college, a certificate, military or any other postsecondary option, we are proud of their commitment to growth.”
Last week, Dr. Paccione shared a video message to encourage students to participate in Decision Day.
On Decision Day, Coloradans are encouraged to wear apparel from their alma mater, favorite school or future program to rally in support of students on their path to postsecondary success. To participate online, supporters can post photos on X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn tagging @CoHigherEd with #DecisionDayCO, #iDecided, and #DecisionDay25.
Decision Day encourages participation statewide from schools, businesses, alumni groups and organizations.
Schools across Colorado host Decision Day celebrations to acknowledge students’ choices and inspire younger students to begin thinking about their futures. The department also provides resources for schools to plan events and engage families in supporting students’ aspirations.
