Get Credit for Defense Language Proficiency Tests (DLPT)

The Colorado Commission on Higher Education requires public institutions to award students college credit for qualifying scores on Defense Language Proficiency Tests (DLPT) when these scores appear on the Joint Services Transcript. Qualifying scores determined by the American Council on Education (generally 80 percent or higher) are posted online.

If a student receives a qualifying score on a test, and the ACE recommendation is to award at least three credits of lower-division foreign language study, the institution will award at least three credits in the AH4 category of GT Pathways. The institution may award more than three credits, but only three credits in the AH4 category are guaranteed to transfer.

Institutions may provide additional guidance on how they evaluate DLPT scores and other military courses and occupations that appear on the Joint Services Transcript. Contact the admissions, transfer, or academic advising office at your institution for more information.
