Celebration of Educational Excellence honors foster youth graduates

DENVER (May 21, 2025) — On June 5, the Colorado Department of Human Services (CDHS) and Colorado Department of Higher Education (CDHE) will host the 27th annual Celebration of Educational Excellence. This special event honors young people involved in the foster care system or youth services who have earned their high school diploma, General Education Development (GED) or college degree.

When: Thursday, June 5 from 4-7 p.m.
Where: Tivoli Student Union, Auraria Campus, Turnhalle 900 Auraria Parkway, Denver 80204

Before the ceremony, graduates can explore a resource fair and connect with organizations and community partners, including Colorado CASA, workforce agencies, the Colorado Department of Education and Elevating Connections. These partners offer support for their future success. After the resource fair, graduates walk across the stage and receive recognition during a dinner.

“We applaud these youth who have overcome significant barriers to get to where they are today. Their perseverance, determination and hard work allow them to stand proud, walk across the stage and be honored for their accomplishments. Activating the potential for all Colorado students is a priority for the Department and the State and we can’t wait to see what these youth do next,” said CDHE Executive Director Dr. Angie Paccione.
