Policy Fellows

The 2022 CDHE Policy Fellows will learn from higher education leaders at CDHE regarding the role and responsibilities of the state's higher education Department and Commission. They will conduct research on the social determinants of student success and present to the Commission.


Fellows will:

• Participate in a selective program

• Understand the Department’s role, application, and development of higher education policy in Colorado

• Learn from Department experts on the role of the state in policymaking

• Work in groups of 4-5 to research one social determinant of student success (transportation, caretaking, housing, belonging/anti-racism)

• Complete a group policy paper / literature review of 10-15 pages on a social determinant of student success of their choosing

• Develop a relationship with the CDHE team


Fellows agree:

• To be enrolled at a Colorado higher education institution, in a graduate program

• To attend a minimum of 6 of 7 meetings (all virtual)

• To commit 2 hours a month to a group policy paper, outside of meetings

• No compensation will be received

• That this is an education and training program tied to the Fellow’s formal education

• That the work complements the existing work of CDHE

• February 2: CDHE’s Role in Colorado

• February 16: Equity in Higher Education

• March 2: Colorado Higher Education Finance

• March 16: Workforce & Industry Partnerships

• April 1: Present at Colorado Commission on Higher Education Meeting (TIME CHANGE: 1:30 - 3p.m.)

• April 13: From Idea to Policy; Graduation
