Teacher Education FAQ


 

“Please give us an update on the 1st Year Survey.  Would you share a summary of the results of the 1st year survey, including a copy of the survey and response rate.”

      First Year Survey update  

  • Susan Hutchinson met with CCHE in September to provide a preliminary report on the first year survey.  In addition she offered recommendations to enhance the survey questions.  

  • The report is scheduled to go to the Commission November 2002.  The report will be posted on the CCHE website two weeks before the November meeting.  

“Please share process for NCATE/State visits.  Please include your reporting requirements and protocols for visits for NCATE and non-NCATE institutions.”

      Teacher Education Review Visits

  • Accrediting agencies such as NCATE will use their process for accreditation review.

  • State Review visits will occur concurrently with the accreditation visits.  

  • The Concurrent reviews will have two teams, the Colorado State Teacher Education Review Team, and the accrediting agency team, such as The NCATE Board of Examiners (BOE).

  • The Concurrent reviews will result in two reports, the Colorado State Report and the accrediting agency report.  

  • Protocol for concurrent Colorado/NCATE reviews in final approval process (9-24-02).

  • Draft protocol available in separate document.

 “Are there other accountability measures being considered for teacher education?”

     Accountability measures

  • The six standards referred to in statute are the basis for accountability

 1. Admission,  2. Counseling,  3. Content,  4. Field Experience,
5. Mastery of Skills, 6. Assessment plan/data

  • No, there are no other accountability measures being considered for teacher education

“I have recently heard that the 1st and 3rd year survey is going back to CDE?  Could you confirm how this will be handled in the future?"

     1st & 3rd Year Survey

  •  CCHE and CDE have a Memo of Understanding regarding the 1st and 3rd year survey.

  • The technical committee will continue to work on the design and analysis of the survey with representation from CDE.  

“Please share the review schedule for programs of higher education for the next four years.”

“What is the process for developing standards for the principal preparation programs?”

     Principal Preparation Program standards development

  • CCHE and CDE will form a small committee to concurrently design the principal program standards and the principal licensure standards.  

  • CCHE will be sending a recommendation to the Legislative Education Committee by June 2003 for proposed program approval standards.
